About the Department
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Afyon Kocatepe University was established on 18.08.2008 by decision No. 22329 of the Higher Education Council. Initially founded and providing education under the name Public Administration, our department was renamed Political Science and Public Administration following the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on 05.04.2017, in accordance with the relevant legislation. The department has a capacity of 60 students, and the language of instruction is Turkish.
In our department, there are 7 faculty members, including 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, and 3 Assistant Professors. Additionally, there are 12 academic staff members, including 1 Lecturer and 4 Research Assistants (one of whom is temporarily assigned to another higher education institution pursuant to Article 35 of Law No. 2547).

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration aims not only to provide students with a strong undergraduate education but also to develop their analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, enhance their social communication abilities, foster teamwork, and empower them with the skills to generate and defend ideas. To achieve this aim, the department implements a unique curriculum designed to equip students with the skills to assume managerial roles in the rapidly developing and transforming Turkish society and to provide them with in-depth knowledge of creative, contemporary public administration. In the first two years of the undergraduate program, students are offered fundamental courses in social sciences. In the 3rd and 4th years, courses are provided to deepen their knowledge in the relevant field and prepare them for specialization. Students in the department have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters through the Erasmus Program and within Turkey at different universities through the Farabi Program. Our department also began offering a Master’s program in the Fall Semester of the 2010-2011 Academic Year and a Doctoral program in the Fall Semester of the 2016-2017 Academic Year.
Graduates of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration earn the title of “Public Administrator” and can work as District Governors, Administrative Judges, Assistant Specialists and Specialists in Independent Administrative Authorities (CMB, EMRA, Competition Authority, etc.), the Central Bank, Inspectors in Ministries, as well as in various other roles in the public sector. They can also work in managerial and other positions in the private sector and third sector organizations (foundations, associations, cooperatives, etc.).
